Accompanying tungsten and molybdenum in the trio of high temperature resistant refractory metals, tantalum (Ta) is the softest of the three and is often used in producing capacitors or electronic devices. Like its accompanying metals, Tantalum doesn’t rust and naturally has anti-corrosive properties. As a result, the metal is ideal for pipes that process harsh chemicals, vacuum furnaces, and nuclear reactors.
The metal is available in the both pure and alloyed versions, and is often combined with tungsten and niobium to accentuate certain properties. The international ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) standard for Tantalum is B708, and all material supplied by Midwest Tungsten Service meets or exceeds the standard. Other forms of the metal include wire, sheets, plate, cubes, and rods.
